Marij Kogoj

Marij (Julij) Kogoj (Trieste, 20 September 1892〔(Slovenski biografski leksikon: Marij Kogoj ) 〕 – Ljubljana, 25 February 1956) was a Slovenian composer. He was a pupil of Schoenberg and Franz Schreker, and immensely popular during the 1920s, culminating with his opera ''Črne maske'' (Black masks).〔Opera, power and ideology: anthropological study of a national art p97 Vlado Kotnik - 2010 -"The interwar generation of Slovenian opera composers was characterized by an eclectic range of styles, from Romanticism to modernism. The 1920s were dominated by the Expressionist composer Marij Kogoj,60 a pupil of Schoenberg"〕
